05 Bourgogne Passetoutgrains, Emmanuel Rouget
Opened with some barnyard and ripe dark fruit then with some mineral turn up at the end, a simple and forward nose. In the palate, it had good acidity, a smooth papalte despite a bit watery at the end. But that does not stop it from being a decent food pairing wine! **

02 Gevrey Chambertin, Dujac Freres & Peres
Always a safe house for me. It opens up with sesame, toasted oak which later opens up beautifully to reveal sweet strawberry and blueberry and in the mix some nice mineral to compliment it, it does have a very attractive nose indeed! In the mouth, med bodied silky smooth lush, with good acidity and lots of red fruit ended with a moderate finish. For a Village Cru as well as a negocient wine, this put shmae on a lot of more expensive Burg! If it has more depth and structure, it could rival a lot of Grand Cru! ***1/2

00 Nuit St. Georges Pruliers, Robert Chevillon
A very welcoming nose indeed made up of floral, warm stone, mint and berry nose, subtle but constant but not explosive. In the palate it has good extract, layered and with ripe plum fruit , smooth tannin and good acidity. Finish is a bit hot and spicy as well as the nose at the end since it's a 13.5% wine. ***

98 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Jamieson Run, Australia
In your face nose made up of plummy fruit, some violet and leather which later strong mineral took over . In the palate, it has more omph than the previous wine consist of explosive plum fruit and leather. Getting a bit too acidic at the end. Drink up.**

01 Clos St. Denis, Dom. Bertagna -
Just when I think the 02 NSG from Gouges is very nice, this one defines what a Grand Cru should be like! Finesse, focused and intoxicating nose that can be sniffed over and over and over. Nose made up of cherry and mineral water when first opened which later yielded to an opulent sweet strawberry and some blueberry nose accompanied nicely with an intriguing perfume which seems to go on and on,! As it evolves some roast meat picked up which I think spoiled the nice and elegant nose. As a sniffer myself, I was also wowed by the palate! Super velvety ,layered with integrated ripe berries and hint of plum. It is lush yet poised , like a women in her 30s! Tannin was there but took a backseat as well as the acidity. Finish is gentle, long and the fruit acidity carries on endlessly in my mouth that makes me don't wanna eat or drink anything! Bertagna is always a nice Dom which prices maintains a reasonable level.****

86 Canon-la-Gaffeliere, St.Emilion - typical merlot nose with some fruit and meatiness. In the palate it is quite rich and with decent fruit but there's some hotness in the finish. A nice wine but pale before the previous wine. **

13.5 is not all that high, so I am surprised not so much that it showed some alcohol, but that you somewhat categorically assign hotness to wines at 13.5% alcohol. Is this a general issue for you (most folks don't seem to have trouble until after 14%+)?

I picked up hotness in my throat and quite alcohilic in the nose as well . Therefore I was guessing that it may be the alcohol content. Truth is the Jamieson Run does not have the hotness issue with the same hotness issue.

My guessing only!

Eric, great notes, thanks. Since you're a Bertagna fan, any recent experience with the 96 Clos Perriere? I have but one bottle, so am anxious to neither open it too early or too late.

Jenise,
I did not tried it but my friend tried a 03 recently and liked it a lot! We are both fans of Bertagna. Here's his WTN:

WTN 2003 Vougeot, Les Clos de la Perriere 1er Cru, Dme Bertagna , Burgundy

Dark red in color. Nose of red fruits, spice and violet. Not very expressive. Palate of ripped black fruit, plum, cinnamon and vanilla with fine tannins and minerals. Medium body, complex and balanced. Nice and silky finish. Medium length. Very forward and enjoyable now!

I also had their 02 Chambolle Musigny, Les Plantes recently and is quite decent too.
