WTN: 2005 Bosquet Des Papes Chante Le Merle VV

This is a lighter redish purple color. No deep, dark blackness here. Nose comes off showing berries, leather and vanilla. I probably drank this wine a little or a lot before its' real drinking window but I might have caught it during its early and decent window before it shuts down. The taste had wonderful complexity that a newbie like me could even detect. I kept cycling thru about three different tastes on my palate with each sip. One taste it came across as a spicy and peppery northern Syrah. Another taste it came across as having a sweet, maple or butter scotch. And occasionally I could pickup a different experience of flowers and herbs that didn't have the pepper or sweetness. And this is an effeminate, delicate wine. It's not a big brute. I like it, but at times I found it a little too sweet where I prefer something more savory. Seemed to have multiple personalities to me.

I've only had a couple of the 2005 CNdPs, but I am finding them to be very sweetly fruity and not exactly what I am looking for (fwiw I loved the '99s). What's your general take on '05?

I really can't say I have an opinion on the 05 CdP vintage. Haven't really drunk much myself to form an opinion. And this was my first Chante Le Merle ever so I have nothing to compare to. I've had a lot of 05 CdRs and CdRVs but not 05 CdP. If there is some sweetness there, it would be interesting to see if it shows up in other CdPs where this isn't normally seen. I am waiting for the 05 Vieille Julienne to show up here and see how sweet it is.
