The evolution of the '04 Burgs continues. This wine tastes nothing like it did a year ago. Gone is the mint that framed the red fruit, and it's been replaced by a warm, naturally fertilized earthiness. The red fruits are still there, and there's a tart edge that gives structure to an otherwise supple wine. This is even better than a year ago, and exactly what I am looking for in village Burg (only better).

"Naturally fertilized earthiness" is a great descriptor, David!

Do you remember what you paid for this?

$34.99 less a 5% discount for a mixed case and zero sales tax (the joys of wine buying in Massachusetts). The '05 was significantly more expensive (but I bought it anyway - last of the line).

FWIW, I tasted the wines that are being made from the sale of the Truchot estate - I nearly cried. Awful, oaky, extracted stuff.

That's really a shame. I'm very sad to hear it too.

2004 mid-level burgs seem to be drinking quite well right now, your note made me want to grab another bottle of Morot Bressandes!
