WTN: Swan Cuvee de Trois PN '02

Cuvee de Trois is the blend of three vineyards that Rod makes largely for restaurant sale. I picked up a couple of bottles 2 1/2 years ago to see if it would be more characteristic of Swan and of PN than what I'd tasted earlier.
Real PN!! I had a bottle of '05 at a restaurant about a year ago and it was sort of fruity and straightforward. I could not damn this bottle with similar faint praise. Clear cherry color (a bit of sediment on the side of the bottle), light aroma, just enough tannin for a bit of bite. Very steady across the mouth with a bit of bramble (after all it is RRV) and barely a hint of cherry in mid-palate. Glad I have another bottle.
Sometimes it's useful to go and wander around the barn and see what's on a shelf in a dark corner. :)
$30.00 14% alcohol.

Sounds like it's developing nicely.

After a few recent years of frustration I have learned to let my California Pinot collection get at least a few years of age. It needs it to mellow the fruit & let any other expression come forward.

I dug the wine out specifically for last night's dinner of a veal chop with bashed potatoes and summer squash. Tonight, supper was beef fajitas with rice. The leftover wine worked perfectly - I didn't over-spice the fajitas, only used a small red Fresno chile with half a pound of meat.
I guess it proves that good wine is (for want of a better word) good.
