2005 Forey Père et Fils Bourgogne 13%
Darker than usual for a bourgogne. Nose of sour cherry and stems. First taste is strikingly medicinal, with unusually mouthpuckering tannins and bracing acidity. With thin pinot skins, how does a winemaker achieve tannin in Burgundy? Extended maceration? Inclusion of stems? Long time in oak? Not enough oak here for that, so must be some other reason. In any case, the taste confirms the sour cherry and some stemminess, not enough to explain the tannins, with a grace note of mint. At the end of the day, nothing to write home about, though muscular and dense for a bourgogne. Good for what it is , but not great.
