WTNs: Riesling x 3

Salomon Undhof Kögl Riesling Kremstal DAC ’07

A concentrated mass of tangy lemon-pie (and lemon grass for that), cardamom, thyme, and cool mossy rocks. Nice! 12,5% alc. $22?

Koehler-Ruprecht Kallstadter Steinacker Riesling Kabinett ‘05

This is a good example of how Pfalz Riesling can indeed seem like an extension of Alsace. Sappy peach fruit, pine resin, plum flesh, wilting rose-petal. There is almost too much concentration for Kabinett, but this is only a limitation of the vintage. The texture is broad and expansive, the acid ripe and blunt. 10,5% alc. $17

Langwerth von Simmern Erbacher Marcobrunn Kabinett ‘05

Succulent white peach and pineapple fruit, straw and wildflowers, and smoky, flinty mineral. I love this vineyard and regardless of vintage, the flavors don’t waver much, they always seem to fully embrace each other. Very Good. 11% alc. $18

Ah 2005. I sure hope that Bernd Philippi does not retire/sell soon.

If he does, I guess my Pfalz-dollars could always go to a reinvigorated Müller-Catoir :D.

In fact Alsace Riesling can be seen as the extension of Pfalz. If they improve a bit

The famous 1998 Saumagen Auslese trocken R from Koehler-Ruprecht taste like a Clos St. Hune.

lol I´ll admit that, some wines from K-R are not that good, to be honest, compared with other ones from him they are worse lol

But there are more vintners in Pfalz than Koehler-Ruprecht, Buerklin-Wolff and Mueller-Catoir ;)

What should a vintner with 10 hectares do when there is a hail storm (for example) in his area in one year?
