WTN:2006 La Posta Bonarda

by Brian K Miller » Sat Jul 26, 2008 1:41 am

Vine Connections, a California-based negociant/importer, brought their portfolio of Argentinean wines tonight. My favorite was their own label, "La Posta," with a single vineyard Estela Armando Vineyard bottling of Bonarda from Guaymallen, Mendoza, Argentina.

Not very experienced with this grape at all (this might be sample number 3). Very savory nose with berry fruit. I honestly thought it was a smokier/earthier Syrah. Plenty of berry fruit, but definitely a nice earthy-smokey character. For $14, not a bad deal at all! Especially given the QPR, a well-deserved 89 points!

This is timely.

I had this wine in a restaurant a while ago with some friends. We ordered a few different wines and this one went well with everyone's entrees, which were quite diverse. I ended up ordering half a case through my local wine guy.

I was just looking at it last night and thinking I should open one. I think I will tonight. I'm making roast chicken but haven't decided on the sides yet.

I'm not sure if it's the same year as yours. I'll have to check.
