WTN: Trapiche Malbec Reserve 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Mon Jul 28, 2008 2:08 pm

Mendoza

Dark purple in the glass.

Quite rich, smoky, tarry and black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, plums, nicely tangy, good weight, smooth, dark chocolate, spicy, intense, with big flavours, a little bitter-lightly tannic toward the end.

With time, the structure of the wine became leaner, but it was still very rich and enjoyable.

Tarry, slightly bitter and drying on the finish.

Purchased at $12.05 (Canadian) and a bargain at that price.

I've been very pleased with all the Trapiche Malbecs I have tasted over the last year or two. They make a mid-priced wine "Brocquel" that is really nice with a couple of years of age on it.

Bruce..... I may have posted this before... but, may I suggest you take 1 or 2 bottles of this wine and throw it deep in your cellar for 2-3 years.....? Its not a huge investment to make and I think that it will be an eye opening experience.

Cheers from Buenos Aires,
Alejandro

It's tough Alejandro. At this cheap price, it's kind of difficult for me to keep my hands off it, particularly during BBQ season.
