WTN: Chateau Lynch Bages 1989

by Bruce Hayes » Tue Jul 29, 2008 10:50 am

Pauillac

Editor's note: I don't have a great deal of experience with mature Bordeaux, so bear that in mind when reading this note.

Decanted about an hour before dinner.

Still quite dark purple in the glass.

Lovely nose of earth, black cherry, hints of barnyard and something that I could only guess as being mint.

Thick and full in the mouth, gentle chocolate, black cherry, slightly tarry, quite rich, slightly vegetal, drying. A very smooth and delicious wine.

I purchased this a number of years ago in the US. I can't recall how much I paid for it at the time, but I think it was just under $100 (perhaps $70 or $80).

Nice to know this is maturing well. I always wish I had more 89's in my Bordeaux box -- I still remember a beautiful 1989 Montrose that was singing about 8 years ago. I have this Lynch Bages as well and it sounds scrumptious.
