WTN: Santa Rita Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Wed Jul 30, 2008 7:15 pm

Valle de Casablanca.

Very light yellow, bordering on clear, in the glass.

Gooseberry on the nose.

Gooseberry, graprefuit, tangy, rather sharp acidity, medium weight, peppery, a little tart, a little round and thick in the mouth after the wine had a chance to warm.

A mouthwatering, tangy finish.

I like tangy wines as much as the next person, but found this one to be on the extreme side.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $13.95 (Canadian).

Glad to see you giving these southern cone wines a try.

Great to see you are pouring the good stuff Bruce! Just in from trip down to Montana and Crowsnest Pass where I enjoyed the great scenery as always. Lots of horsey fun, beer, rye coke!!

Bruce, if it was that sour, might there be a chance that the wine was acidified at some point? I've had warm-climate wines in the past that had just too much of that tartaric-acid-granule pucker for me not to suspect as much.

Not sure Paul. All I know is that I have had the Santa Rita SB a number of times over the years and it was always rich, with a nice tang, rather than being mouth puckering.

The SBs from Chile are good stuff..... I wish I could get my hands on more of the stuff here on the right side of the Andes. Last one I had was the Araucano SB... cant remember the producer though...
