1999 Charles Joguet "Les Varennes du Grand Clos", Chinon, 12.5%
Mature color of sunset red. Musty nose of sour cherries and attic furniture. On the palate, herbs, dried fruit and leather with assertive acidity but almost no tannins at this point. Was a great pairing with a charcuterie plate dinner of an herbaceous New Mexico style pate en croute with sliced tomatoes and avocado. A wine to be hated by seekers of porty, hedonistic fruit, but a wine to be loved by traditionalists. Boo hoo, it was my last bottle.
