Move Sale Chambers St Wines

by Dale Williams » Mon Aug 04, 2008 11:06 am

I don't generally like to clutter the group with sale notices. But while I shop at a LOT of different stores, if I had to chose one as indispensable it would probably be Chambers St (though Zachys is store I buy most from according to Cellartracker). Almost certainly the strongest store in the country in Loire as well as the more obscure French regions, very strong in Germany, Piedmont (especially older),. Burgundy, etc.

Due to landlord/space issues, they are moving down the block. Currently they are having a moving sale of in-stock items. They've discounted everything that wasn't already non-discountable (some rarer/older things 10%, most things 20%). Some very good deals at
http://chambersstwines.com/

I had declared I wasn't buying wine in August. But I just ordered some Germans (Hexamer. Gysler, Emrich-Schonleber, Van Volxem), Loires (Clos Roche Blanche, Cazin, Bellivière, Filliatreau, Pinon, Guion, Huet), Burg (Marechal), Piedmonts (Sella Manzoni - Valentino) and one lone sicilian (Biondi Etna Rosso). But I also saw deals in Bordeaux, US (ESJ), Austria, Rhone.

No affiliation except as a satisfied customer.

Good for you. I hear that things have been flying fast since the sale started on Friday and they are already out of lots of stuff?

Dale, just to reinforce this with a sermon to the entire choir, it is NEVER spam when we post useful wine-consumer information in which we have no financial interest.

Spam is unsolicited commercial posting by a person with something to gain, most often a one-time visitor who hits us with a "bomb run" and goes on. This is despised, because it is sneaky, sleazy and dethpicable.

But when it comes to regular forum members exchanging information about great buying opportunities, that's what we're HERE for.

Posting about a commercial opportunity is harmless in and of itself - after all, we all do buy wine. It's just the conflict-of-interest issue, particularly from strangers who have no other interest in the forum, that brings up the scent of pink meat.

Thanks Dale for enlightening us mortals here in the north. I have read so much about Chambers St here on this forum!

That is quite a moving sale! Robin, great attitude.....TC over in the UK would never allow such a post.

Rahsaan,
Probably. There were definitely things I ordered in July not there anymore. I got notice when in CA, was guesting on others' computers and didn't want to spend time browsing. But enough was left this AM to make me happy (if poorer).

Thanks Robin. I just prefer to err on side of caution.

Happy shopping everyone.

I gather it has been madness down there, but there is still plenty of wine left, from what I can tell. I'm on a hiatus as well, but who can turn down 20% at CSW?

I stuck my head in the store last time I was in NYC, and they had to pry me out of there. Chambers Street is an amazing place with a terrific staff. I just can't say enough good things about them. On the down side, they have shown amazing skill at getting my money.

Pretty much everything on their website now falls into the non-discountable category

No, you need to check again. While it's true that virtually everything says "non-discountable," notice that roughly 20% has already been taken off -- the gold type. I think they mean "no further discounts." As in, you will not get the usual 10 percent off a case (which has already been discounted).

that's because they've already applied a 20 or 10% discount.

Right. I shouldn't have said "roughly." For most items its 20%, for some rare stuff and pre-arrivals it's 10%. Stuff that wasn't discountable before (Champagne, super-rare stuff) still isn't.
