WTN: Pinol Ludovicus 2006

DO Terra Alta

A blend of Grenache, Tempranillo, Syrah and Cabernet.

Quite dark purple in the glass.

An inky/black nose, with fleshy and sweet berry fruit showing through a little later.

Black cherry, raspberry, blueberry, rather tangy, spicy, drying, floral, light to medium weight, tarry, peppery, a little hot toward the end.

This wine took quite a bit of time to come around and IMHO, it never really did come around. For the first glass, I couldn't really smell or taste anything, but I just thought it would open up with some time. However, it remained quite shy and underwhelming throughout the entire evening.

With time, the tanginess and pepperiness increased.

A tart, apple-like finish.

Nothing terribly wrong with the wine, but nothing terribly right with it either. I guess I was expecting more, based on the grapes that went into this.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

Ludovicus? Isn't that a spell from Harry Potter?
