After 5-6 days in Zihuatanejo and nothing but Pacifico and Margaritas we had some friend over for a bottle of wine. Made some guacamole and a batch of tititas. Thought my '02 Huet sec would work well with the guacamole and it did. The wine was a light gold color, lots of mineral, melon and soft acidity as a backbone. You can never buy enough Huet and you can never keep your hands on it long enough to see how nicely it ages. Still have 5 bottles left and know they will all be gone in a few years. Our guests brought a bottle of '81 Heitz Marthas and said they had not had a bottle recently and was afraid it may not be that good. It seems they bought many, many cabs about 20-25 years ago and then traveled on work all over the world, having to leave all the wine in public storage. They have just retired and are beginning to get into their stash. I can tell you these people are going to become my new "best friends". This wine was perfect. It was soft, and even though "fully integrated" is an over-used word it fits this wine. Nothing stood out as all of the elements were in harmony. It had beautiful dark berry fruit and a finish that just kept on going. I would compare this wine to a pair of silk PJs, or a relaxing message or falling asleep in a hamock on a warm afternoon. If I thought current cabs would age this gracefully I would still be buying them. Great fun to drink and a memorable wine.
