. . . in case you're interested, some coverage from the hometown paper. So The Palate is a pedal-pusher--who knew?

Clinton,
It may be a bit of a fluff piece, but thanks for the article all the same. I've never understood the visceral spite that some people have towards Parker. I also don't get the adulation either. In my wine "life" Robin Garr has been more influential than Robert Parker.
Cheers!

If you've never understood the visceral spite that people hold for Robert Parker, then you probably haven't seen http://www.mondovinofilm.com/. If he hasn't got you spitting with disgust within five minutes...then maybe you've never understood the visceral spite people hold for Robert Parker. :D

I know of one person who has a fairly understandable reason for his visceral dislike of RMP, but I do agree that both poles of reaction are for the most part bizarre. FWIW, I can think of a few dozen Internet Wine Personalities (you know who you are) who have had far greater impact on my wine purchases than any critic has.

I've come late to the wine scene so I'm not all that up on the various political battles that have taken place in the last 25 years. It seems silly that people could get so passionate about wine. If this were politics I might understand, although I find the spite in politics to be pretty silly too. We'd all be better off if we focussed our passion in helping each other out now and then. Of course, I'm as guilty as the next person. Don't get me started about Peter Angelos and the Baltimore Orioles! Go Nats!

I think Robin's a very nice person but set your goals higher to reach wine "Nirvana". If not, would you like to subscribe to my monthly wine journal "World's Most Pedestrian Wines" only $800.00 per year?

Throw in a bottle of Bocko's latest 90 pointer and you have a deal. The check is "in the mail."

Bocko, the Northwest wine goofus? Now I'm really insulted. You will be hearing from my "uptown" attorney. This calls for serious action.

Bring him on! Why don't you hire Peter Angelos! He'll sue anyone! His fees run about $750 an hour. That's chump change for a big timer like you!

Bring him on!

If I was him, I'd get a whole team. He can go out in his back yard and dig up a few double eagles he has squirreled away in tin cans. If the bottle doesn't fit, you must acquit.

I wonder if they'll let him out of the home long enough to purse this endeavor? News at eleven.

What chance do I have against a person such as yourself who hails from the same state as "The Mayor of Monkton". I've heard that he has you over for a weekly conference to make the final decision on how many points for each individual wines tasted that week. While I'm having this jealous tirade, I'm also under the impression that Paul B. has you proof read all his posts for authenticity. Now that's a real GURU!

Is this Lou the wine importer? If so, any tips on Muscadet?

Just go with what Louis Dressner brings into the country. I'm sure there are people on the board who can give you all the details.

Is RP relevant to anything other than Bordeaux? Obviously his phenomenal power is something in and of itself, but it came primarily from his opinions regarding just Bordeaux, didn't it?

Covert,
To me this is the only place I would pay any attention to RP. Some say the Rhone and if you like OZ stuff some say Shiraz. When buying at auctions I still refer to his old Bordeaux books. More recently he has started favoring the garage Bordeaux and all of them seem over-the-top to me. Makes you wonder if after tasting 100 wines a day for 25 years that his palate has turned to leather and he needs the big stuff to activate it.
