2005 Johannishof, Rheingau, Riesling Kabinett, Johannisberg (G) ($16 Kappy’s). Alcohol level: 10%.

It gives you a blast of citrus and under ripe pears on the nose and upfront. There is more fruit including grapefruit and guavas along with a distinct minerality and crisp acidity in middle, and the finish lingers on and on. We haven’t had a wine like this since we lived in Germany in the sixties.

We matched it with mussels steamed in white wine, fish stock, garlic/shallots, and herbs; crusty bread, and salad with orange vinaigrette. Wonderful!

In what sense?

You haven't bought the wines? Or this rendition seemed particularly old-fashioned? In what way?

We just haven't bought many German wines recently. It just brought back some wonderful memories. I may be old but not an old fashioned guy!

Ok. As you probably know, if you do decide to start buying more, I'm sure you'll find plenty to be happy about!
