Mo'Cool transportation

by Bob Henrick » Sat Aug 09, 2008 10:02 am

The upcoming week is Mo'Cool week and I am attempting to put together a van type taxi for both Friday night, and for Saturday afternoon, and evening. this would be to and from gatherings where wine will be consumed, Michigan has very strict no ands ifs or buts. if one is 0.08 alcohol and driving, they will go to jail. This makes it advisable to take commercial transportation. with this post, I am trying to determine a number of persons who will want to take advantage of such transportation. I will need to know a final number by Tuesday 8/12 in order to make final arrangements. I am looking to secure a 15 passenger van...plus there will likely be some who will bring a designated driver who might handle some overflow. Please respond here, with affirmative answers, and if you have questions please PM or email me via the forum.

I have no other way of getting back and forth except with You or Howie. I'm not stupid enough to drive myself. Count me in!

I am putting you in charge of that Mike, so you decide and bring the ingredients for tasting. Beverage and foodstuff!

James, it probably doesn't help to bug Bob every few hours. You don't leave until Friday and he should have some word for us by then. Look forward to seeing you soon.

Of course it isn't every few hours, just once a day. Mostly to keep the topic fresh, not to bother Bob. Sorry Bob!

I have been in contact with a van service in Ann Arbor regarding both Friday and Saturday. He is supposed to get back to me this afternoon and I should know the cost then, As soon as I know, I will post it here on the forum. For Friday it now looks like 17 people and that could grow, but because of some staying Saturday at the cabins, I don't know what Saturday will be. If you are one of the Friday passengers, but not the Saturday, please indicate that to me. I will be arriving in Ann Arbor Thursday afternoon, so will need to check this thread just before leaving. If you need to contact me after say 8 AM Thursday, you might better call me at 859-338-7325 which is my cell phone. Thanks.

The van service guy called me back and gave me a price for both days to and from. He wants $775 total. of course the price per person depends on how many will be riding. This would include two vans with drivers, and it would be for both Friday night and Saturday, coming and going. $775/20 would be $38.75 per person. Less riders would mean more per person. If Saturday there is need of only one van then the price would be less. My quandary is that I do not know how many will want to ride.

What James said. Willing to pay up to $50 rather than risk trouble with law enforcement or an accident.

I will be leaving Lexington Thursday morning around 9 AM, it is likely that I will check this thread again about an hour before that time. As I have reported, the van service wants $775 for both days, and that is just a little under $40 which is not bad, however that number is based on having 20 people who want rides. I am coming up against a deadline that I can not control, as I would have to tell the van service how many each day, and hope that the price can be reduced if fewer people. Right now though, I do not have a handle on how many, nor for which day(s). Replies, and my own guess work tells me that I have 18 people for Friday, but Saturday is tenuous at best. I am considering that we might all be better served if we pair/quad up and share a taxi. My cellphone number is 859-338-7325, and I will have it on full time while on the road.. I will contact the van guy again once I am in place in Whitmore Lakes. One other thought is that we could rent a van ourselves and do the driving, if we can find a designated driver.
