WTN: '06 George Duboeuf Flower Label Regnie

2006 George Duboeuf, Flower Label, Regnie ($10.99 NH Liq Store). Alcohol level: 13%.

It gives you a ton of flowerey red fruit on the nose and upfront including red cherries, strawberries, and cranberries. There is more of same in the surprisingly complex and slightly earthy middle. The finish hangs on for a moment or two.

We matched it with broiled (still rainy here) Swiss Steak, blanched and sauteed broccoli rabe-rappini, and crusty bread rubbed with garlic. Very nice Tuesday night!

We would buy more in a heartbeat.

No banana? If they have stopped with the banana-flavored yeasts then Duboeuf Bojo may be useful for non-winegeek guests.

And if they can keep prices that low.

Not that I'm exactly running out to buy this, but most other stuff is creeping past $15 and closer to $20 (slightly different region but I just saw the 07 Briords for $15.99).

They stopped using the banana yeasts some vintages ago, David.

I'm not saying it's safe to go back into the Duboeuf pool again, but the banana boat days should be past. :)

A decade or two ago. Duboeuf will probably always be associated with banana-flavored yeasts the way Bill Buckner is associated with his error in the 1986 World Series - a grave injustice to both of them.
