WTN: Georg Breuer Berg Roseneck 2001

by Andrew Burge » Thu Aug 21, 2008 7:00 am

Glowing pale green gold. Nose is minerally filigreed lemons and oranges. The palate is also all about ripe citrus: juicy lime, mandarin, orange, quince, and some toast to show its 7 years. Round and rich possibly with a bit of botrytis, the acid and alcohol make this warm and cuddly. Close to Australian in its structure, but the fruit flavours and weight define its Rheingau origins. A pleasant change from a diet of Mosel :-)

cheers

Andrew,
Ahhhh, Breuer. One of my favorite producers which unfortunately are increasingly difficult to find in middle-America these days. I have a small stash of the 2001 Georg Breuer Berg Schlossberg which I guess I should consider trying soon.

Heinrich Breuer might recommend opening one soon, but I think that there's a lot of life left there. If you pop one, let me know!

Thank you very much, Martin.
Did Herr Breuer, or anyone else, share any details about "The Project".
Danke.

Yes, a little bit. Instead of vertical vines planted, they made a "project" with horizontal vines planted.

Hi Martin,
Do you really mean that the vines themselves are horizontal, not the rows?

Not recently, but It was a VERY good Berg Schlossberg vintage. I liked it as much as 2001 if not more.

No problems, Martin. I just wanted to know, thought the idea of horizontal vines covering the ground sounded pretty cool... :D

Thanks DLo,

Time is becoming precious and I don't get to post very much anywhere these days. I now reserve these for WLDG where there is German expertise to learn from.

My Melbourne exploits from the two weeks off are no match for your Noosa/Rathdowney epic!

I had the 04 not so long ago - lovely wine. I'll dig out my WTN sometime,
