WTN: 2005 Domaine Carneros Avant-Garde Merlot

by Doug Surplus » Fri Aug 22, 2008 1:11 am

Aroma of plums and faint barnyard funk greet the nose, with earthy plums and cherries following in the mouth. Moderate tannins and a clean, lingering tart berry finish, with occasional hints of caramel.

This is a very interesting, yet enjoyable Merlot. It is styled more like Pinot Noir with its earthy component and tart finish and, like Pinot, it was very food friendly. I drank it over two nights and found it retained it's freshness and structure overnight. $28, only available from the winery.

Doug, did you pick this up on your recent vacation up there? Did I miss a report somewhere along the way?

Yes, I got this while there. I've been trying to write up a report or three to post (complete with pics), but work and sleep and drinking wine keep getting in the way.

Ok, on the drinking wine excuse, but really, work and sleep? Get your priorities straight, man! :D
