WTN: Pelee Island Non-Oak Chardonnay 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Aug 23, 2008 3:08 pm

VQA Ontario

For Ontario residents, this is the bottling with the Ring Neck Pheasant on the label.

Medium yellow in the glass.

Fresh, peppery and light citrus fruit on the nose.

Rich fruit, peach, pear, green apple, grapefruit, peppery, good acidity, lightly honyed, a mild bitter streak, fresh and refreshing.

A peppery, tangy finish.

A delcious wine from a winery I have not tried in a while.

This was a gift, but I know it sells for $10.95 (Canadian) and it is a steal at that price.

Bruce,

I am always on the look out for un-oaked Chard. I will keep an eye out for this one around here.

PS: St. Supery makes a nice un-oaked Chard.

Carl,

I checked with the local wine mart today. They don't carry it, and apparently it isn't widely available in the U.S. Looks like I will have to do without.

A fine alternative is the 2006 Vineland Estates non-oaked Chardonnay VQA, Gold Medal winner American Wine Society and a double silver medal winner also. It can be purchased online and shipped anywhere. The website is http://www.thecuvee.com
