Mein Gott, do I love that 2005 vintage in Austria. It’s been so overshadowed by the local 2006 vintage and by the 2005s everywhere else in Europe (not to mention the ‘more’ favorable exchange rate when they landed) that there are disgusting values to be found.
Birgit Eichinger certainly did a good job with this one (not that it should be surprising.) When I tasted this six months ago the fruit was sleek and succulent. Now the flaky mica mineral and kerosene has overtaken the feminine peachiness and gardenia. It is such a beautiful wine and shows the softer side of Gaisberg so well. 13% alc. $20
Prost!
