Home wine making books

by Bob Ross » Thu Aug 28, 2008 5:16 pm

A wine making facility opened nearby and has actually stayed in business for two seasons. Friends thought they have good equipment and excellent hygenie. Janet suggested I might take up winemaking as a hobby now that I'm out of the winetasting business.

What are some good books on the subject?

How about The Wine Maker's Answer Book by Alison Crow?

Best, Bob

I like Philip Wagner's "Grapes into Wine," although with all the new books on the subject available, I may be a little out of date. It's technical enough to satisfy most amateurs without burdening with excessive detail.

I agree. Another one that is very good is "The Home Winemakers Manual", available as a free download from a link on the WLDG Home Page: http://www.geocities.com/lumeisenman/. There is also http://www.winepress.us/, which is kind of like the WLDG, except aimed at wine makers and grape growers. My favorite book is "The Home Wine Makers Handbook" by Walter S. Taylor and Richard P. Vine, but it is quite out of date and was published in the 1960s. I've been tempted to update it and compile a second edition. :?

Great Reference Book by the “Wine Wizard”.

Agree with Alan and Howie, Philip Wagner’s Grapes into Wine great book.

Other good books on the art of winemaking;
Winemaking Stanley and Dorothy Anderson
The Art of Making Wine Stanley Anderson with Raymond Hull
Techniques in Home Winemaking Daniel Pambianchi
The Home Winemaker’s Companion Gene Spaziani
The Home Winemaker’s Handbook Philip Ward
The Joy of Home Winemaking Terry Garey
The Encyclopedia of Home Winemaking I Pierre Drapeau and Andre Vanasse
