WTN: 1993 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules

  • 1993 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (8/28/2008)
Red berries, earth, rust - absolutely lovely nose, but more like a youngish Nebbiolo than Pinot Noir! Well structured, palate-cleansing, bright, deep and interminable. Lovely. I like a good structure so I liked this very much even now, though it is still has room for improvement. I had to check the label a couple times just to make sure I wasn't drinking a Barbaresco.

Otto,

Glad to hear that the '93 CdU was good. I have not taste the '93 vintage, but I did happen onto a half case of '98 CdU a few years ago. I was excellent, and among the best QPR Burg I've had. Unfortunately I don't run into much CdU of any vintage locally.

Thanks for the note. I am still sitting on most of my 93s.

Interesting. I think that is a descriptor I would use for some of the 93s I have tried.

Sam, Ursules is indeed a great bargain - I bought a couple bottles of this '93 a few years back for just 45€ a bottle (including taxes and shipping from Belgium) - I think that is a bargain for a wine of this quality with over a decade's age on it.

Eric, I don't have experience with many of Ursules, but from what I have read it seems that this wine needs much age.

Jason, I love the '93s I've had - certainly a structured vintage that is still young for many wines. But most others I had have just been structured Burgundy, not Barbaresco. But I love Nebbiolo, so I didn't mind.
