Gamay sounds like it ought to be something I would like. But previous samples I've tried have ranged from the downright vile to the sub-par. A fellow WLDC board goer recommended that I try something from Moulin a Vent, since it might offer something a little more structured to suit my palate. So I did.

The wine gives off a thick but not overly expressive smell - largely of wood.
On the palate it's a different story. It's packed with soft, succulent red fruit flavour - a big dollop of cherry in the main, ably supported by notes of raspberry and strawberry. Given the smell, and the fact the wine seemed to have a lovely creamy flavour of sweet vanilla alongside the fruit I was astonished to learn from the merchants' website that it's not oaked. It was equally delicious and considerably more refreshing once slightly chilled.

Yes, it worked well. Sadly my local merchant is no longer going to be stocking this wine - this was amongst the last few bottles they had in stock.
