Introduction

by Brooke Marchand » Thu Sep 04, 2008 10:58 am

Hi,

Just got on. I like wine and I've enjoyed reading posts here off and on for a few years. I'm ready to expand my knowledge and participate. I recently settled in the Shreveport area and am just starting to learn the various wine stores in the area and discover what wines my husband and I can both enjoy together. So I will listen to what others say and gather ideas, and maybe be able to contribute as my understanding grows.

So, I just wanted to say "Hi" for now, and that I am glad to be here. :D

Welcome Brooke! This is a very friendly and helpful board.

One key to enjoying wine is to never, ever try red Burgundy. It will kill your spirit and empty your pockets. Some here may defend it, but Burgundy is an abusive wine that has no loyalty.

On the bright side, there are lots of other great wines to choose from!

Welcome Brooke. There used to be and may still be a fabulous wine store on the southwest side of town that I always visited when visiting Barksdale. That was a few years back and darn if I can remember the name! If you find one in the phone book in that area, you might give it a shot.

Gosh, is everybody in Kentucky a speedreader? :) She said Shreveport.

Aside to Brooke: don't worry about Bob H saying you'd make a good pair. He's harmless. Really.

Wow, you are certainly a welcoming group, thanks for the overwhelming response!
As a few pointed out, I am in Shreveport, Louisiana, but please Bob, don't hold it against me.

My husband and I recently began going out and about in the area, trying to find great restaurants and wine stores. Not having too much luck, I should say.
I'm going to a wine tasting next week, and I look forward to bringing some of my opinions back to discuss!

I typically enjoy Toasted Head Chardonnay a couple times a week at home, and then whatever moves me at a restaurant, typically Cabs and Merlots, lately Chilean Cabs. I had a Merlot based bottle once from Fronsac, which I really liked, but can’t remember its name.

Oswaldo,

That is the perfect Burgundy analogy. It is best to avoid knowing sin in the first place. Do not listen to the serpent! But I do have very nice '96 Grands Echezeaux in my cellar that I've... No!... Must not give in...
