WTN: 2005 Copain Syrah - Hawks Butte

2005 Copain Syrah Hawks Butte Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands (8/6/2008)
Did the 1 glass and re-cork thing. Poured one glass each night. Meant for it to last longer but on the fourth night it went down fast. Aromatically the wine always showed stems and berries. On the second day, there was the addition of water. Never showed much fatness but by the fourth day there were violets and sweet leather. At first, the palate was in line but not in sync. At the very VERY front I got fruit, followed by acid and then the tannin appeared. The wine is coming off as thin on the first and second night, as well as showing a little heat. By the third night the wine started to harmonize and had shed the slight heat. Very nice acid. Lately I have been having wines that are dominated by citrusy acid. This was not. I really liked the purity and great weight on the palate. As the days went on the tannins came off as light. The finish was a little weak. It will be years before a dare open another bottle. This wine seemed is night and day from the 2004. (91 pts.)
