WTN: 1997 Tom Eddy Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa)

Every time I taste one of Tom's wines, I sort of regret that I stopped buying them about 5 years ago when the prices went North of $55.

1997 Tom Eddy Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa)

13.8% abv.

Paired with rosemary grilled loin lamb chops.

Simply stated, this is one of the best Cali-Cabs that I have tasted in the last 3 or 4 years. If it had been served blind I never would have guessed it was a 1997. It is still youthful and lacks the ripe/raisined/alcoholic qualities that unfortunately afflict many/most of its peers in this vintage. This bottle had plenty of dark fruit, nuances of cigar box, leather followed by a lingering finish. Plenty of acididty and still some tannins to be resolved. Balanced.

At age 11, it should continue to improve and still has a long life ahead. Wonderful now, but I won't touch my 2 remaining bottles for at least 3 years .

I still have a bottle of the '96. Thanks for the update. I have not seen the wines around in years, so I was wondering if they still existed.
