Short notes from two weeks ago.

Alma Rosa Winery Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills 2005 - Rather hot. Good fragrance. Sweet, ripe strawberry. Quite complex. Long, firm and dry finish with a bit of wood. Very good.

Sanford Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills 2006 - Pale. Cherry, menthol and initially sweet fruit that dries out a bit. Spicy, strawberry fruit. Lightish wine that finishes dry. Good but I prefer the Alma Rosa.

Wyndham Bin 444 Shiraz 2004 - Sweet, rich and tannic. Friendly wine.

Capcanes Lasendal 2006 - Garnacha. Not much on the nose. Very tannic. Medium-bodied. Dry. Good crisp acidity. Needs a few years to soften.

Wente Riverbank Riesling 2006 - Grapefruit. Candied citrus rind. Friendly and very good.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
