Guardian series on wine

by MattThr » Wed Sep 10, 2008 6:14 am

Hi,

In the UK the Guardian newspaper is running a series of articles on wine:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/ ... 8/sep/04/1

So far there's not much of particular interest but the feature is going to be running on over the next couple of weeks so it's worth keeping an eye on.

What may be of more interest is that as part of the series, their wine critic has been doing a series of "top wines" recommendations on different parts of the world. They vary hugely in terms of price:
French Red: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/ ... =337038198
French White: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/ ... =337037275
Italian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/ ... =337087557
Again this is an ongoing feature, so if anyone is interested I can continue to update this thread with links to the recommendations as they come up.

Enjoy!

Matt
I figured the series would be aimed low (albeit with the Guardian, probably focused slightly above the usual £4.99 supermarket fodder). I doubt there would be much that a newspaper would write on wine that would be news to us folk, but I'm pretty encouraged that despite having a good few supermarket wines, there were also more interesting wines and independant wine merchants listed as well.

A far cry from the days of Malcolm (Superplonk) Gluck who had the biggest chip on his shoulder that clouded whatever taste he may (or may not) have had. The Guardian has lifted it's game.

regards

Ian
