PINK port?

by Jenise » Mon Sep 15, 2008 1:57 pm

Anyone try this?

Review from Leslie Sbrocco on Epicurious.com:

Croft “Pink” Porto, Portugal $20
A little sweet…a lot of fun. The world’s first rose-style Porto made with traditional grapes is light, floral-scented and pretty with balanced sweetness. This wine is all about enjoyment – add a dash of “Pink” to bubbly for a cocktail or sip it well chilled with a piece of chocolate for simple dessert.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Its all the rage here in downtown Edmonton. Bottles placed prominently in the liquor store, signs outside neighbouring restaurants and bars.

Have I tasted yet? Nope and not likely too!!

There have been posts on this board about it already, saying it was awful...

From this summer:
Yep, rosé port. In an Ott-esque bottle. Reminds me of white Zinfandel with a dollop of brandy. Sweet, empty, hot. Actually label says serve cold or on ice, maybe better not at room temp. C

Apparently very much marketed towards women. If I try again, on rocks.

Oh God. The apocalypse is upon us.

I knew it was all downhill when we moved from white Zin to the Aussies making tannic sparkling red Shiraz, and now this, Pink Port.

The world has turned over on itself and I shall hide in the cellar and ignore it all (until I run out of wine. Should be some time around 2025)

Even your normally trenchant wit palls when it comes to Port this week as I have yet to recover from that Tinto Travesty at the last lunch with those two Godawful ersatz 'ports'......

The Tinto Travesty, with capital letters? As memorials go, this is good but I think you should go even further--think Galveston 1900, or 9/11. Short of building a monument of the "lest we forget" kind, at a minimum you might want to refer to this as The Great Tinto Travesty of 2008. Of course, having mentioned 'monument' I'm now thinking of several places in your garden where we could set Manny's plastic 'Canadian Port' jug into some cement. Maybe by the bocce court.

No, I LIKE the rhodies. I did NOT like the BC Port we were slipped at lunch - a real gagger, then followed up by another one only a little better.
