Fall delivery weather coming soon!

by Jenise » Tue Sep 16, 2008 2:58 pm

Those of us in the Northern Hemisphere are will soon be getting deliveries of wines purchased or ordered over the summer. How many cases are coming to your house?

Probably my slowest summer ever: only about four here. In years past, it's been more like 10-15.

I'm actually getting HDH shipment tomorrow. Pretty easy to keep track of weather Il to NY. I'll probably get Winebid soon too, I'll hold off for CA (WHWC, WineHouse, PC, Benchmark) because one has to assume it might go through AZ or Texas, etc. So October if it looks good.

Since the Euro seems to be sliding, maybe next year will be better.

No cases for me actually. I do make purchases here and there but is usually kinda spotty and random. I even made a couple purchases during this past summer - I know, not too intelligent. I do always make sure to at least choose 2 day shipping or less however.

A case and a half from the Chambers St fire sale when weather permits. Maybe I should just arrange a prisoner swap with Dale. :P

No cases for me. Living in Maryland puts me at great disadvantage for home delivery. A few producers have shipped to my home with no problems, but I do worry about doing so often. I've had wine delivered to my office but I'm not crazy about doing that for several reasons.

holy crapola.. looking at CT, I have 164 pending bottles waiting to be shipped... most from Winebid.com and Garagiste, but also North Berkeley and a couple of others, plus a shared case from Littorai that I never entered in the system, so let's say 170 divided by 12.. 14 cases, roughly.. . damn.. nice..

Absolutely nothing!! That left me $$$ to pick up a couple cases of ESJ (Bassetti, Wylie Fenaughty, Heart of Gold. etc.) that just arrived in the local Indy market.
Happy camper,

Wow, Jim, glad someone's holding my end of things! Where do you keep all this? You must have quite a collection by now.

I've got 86 bottles coming. Less than last Fall, but more than I actually need, given that my cellar is too full as it is.

Let's count.. I have a VinoTemp in the garage (about 460 in that one); some in the outside BBQ fridge; about 35 in the inside under-the-counter fridge in the kitchen; a few in a small unit under my desk at work; and then about 250 in about 1/3 of a walk-in locker I share with a friend at Legend Cellars in Irvine... so.. mostly Pinot and Bordeaux/Cabernet...
Cheers, Jim

Sadly? No! I say that's better than no Dashe L'Enfant Terrible Zin. :)

Probably my slowest summer ever: only about four here. In years past, it's been more like 10-15.

I don't mean to come across the nay-sayer, but here's a data point: Like all wine geeks, I stop ordering from my Usual Sources during the summer, but our partnership with California Wine Club gets me a steady flow of boxes (regular club and Connoisseur's Series monthly, International Wine Club quarterly, and that amazing Aged Cabernet Series once). They seem to ship (via FedEx) on Mondays, and even though it's not overnight, I always get the bottles same week, and they always arrive cool even on very hot days. Maybe I've been lucky, but I simply haven't seen it as a problem. And only in the case of the Aged Cabs, which could have been fragile (but weren't), did they spring for high-price shipment, sending it out from CA late in an afternoon and marking for a special "early morning" delivery. In fact, the doorbell rang at 6:30 a.m., and I took delivery in my boxer shorts! How's that for dignified connoisseurship? :D

So yesterday I called Woodland Hills & scheduled my case from them (6 bottles of Vacqueras & 6 bottles of 2002 Huet Vouvray Petillant) for October 13. My Dashe box should ship the same day.

Within an hour of writing ths, I got the Winebid shipping notice, it will be here today (usually IL to NY is 2 day for ground). As I ship ground, I'm holding off a few weeks on CA, because it can concievably go through say Phoenix, where it's 99 today.

But that's okay, go ahead and hide. I'll just ask Mary. 8)
