Vale Bailey Carrodus

Yarra Yering's founder/owner/winemaker, Bailey Carrodus, passed away yesterday, September 19, 2008, after a short illness.

I never got to meet Bailey in person, but I spoke with him on the phone on a number of occasions over many years. A fascinating and brilliant man if somewhat eccentric at times. His wines were always full of interest, and like the man himself, certainly, never dull.

His passing marks a couple of bad days for global wine with Didier Dagueneau tragically killed in a plane crash earlier this week.

Very sad news.

It's been a bad year when you add in Kracher and Salomon.

My thoughts exactly, David. '08 will go down as a grim year in the wine world.
