New York Wines available in California?

by Brian K Miller » Mon Sep 22, 2008 2:18 pm

I suppose direct shipping via intenet sales is a possibility, but this question is for west coasters (NorCal in particular):

Are there any wine shops in Northern California that carry a range of New York State wines? I'm old fashioned in that I like to actually pick up the bottles and look at 'em first.

That's a tough one, Brian. I've picked up the stray bottle or two of New York wine at the Nugget and I'd be surprised if Corti Brothers didn't have something from that state in their inventory. But I've never seen more than a couple of New York offerings at a store around here.

I understand the reverse is true-not too many off-beat California wines available on the East Coast, either. :? I'm guessing that New York (and Michigan) wines are small production and there is no real need/incentive to ship them across the country.

Mostly true. Same with Ontario. Most are sold either at the winery or locally. There is a large selection of both NY and Ont. wines available in local wine shops in the Buffalo area. Then again there is somewhat of an intimidation factor - taking wine to CA is like taking coal to Newcastle.
