WTN: 1999 Dönnhoff Norheimer Dellchen Riesling Kabinett

by David M. Bueker » Sat Sep 27, 2008 2:48 pm

Cooperative note from David Bueker & Salil Benegal.

Showing remarkably youthful for being a 9-year old kabinett, this Dellchen shows lots of pear and apple fruit, the barest hint of petrol & a mossy/earthy undertone that forms a foundation for the wine from start to finish. Elegant & minerally to the point of saline, this is drinking at its peak now.

Not to pick on you or anything, because we've all made such statements, but technically that is not knowable is it?

While it may be absolutely delicious right now, who is to say that it won't continue that way or even get better?

True, but the balance is impeccable now & the wine already went through a truculent, nearly undrinkable stage. I'm inclined to enjoy the moment & drink up.

Fair enough.
