WTN: 2000 Karl Lawrence Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa)

At age 8 or so is when I generally find most of the KL regular bottlingss start hitting their stride, so I figured it was time to approach this so-called off vintage. But this bottle was no where near ready for its debut...it was a tad angry and irritable. There is a wall of formidable tannins that dominate. The color is deep, dark purple. Medium bodied. Black fruits and coffee notes try to balance out the tannins but are unsuccessful.

This was popped and poured so if you are hell bent on opening one now, I suggest a multi-hour decant. Scads of sediment also indicate a decant is in order.

I have 3 more in the cellar and they will remain resting for at least 2 or 3 years.

I'm cellaring these and was getting a bit antsy myself; really appreciate your sacrifice.

Bill,

Thanks for the note. I purchased a case on release and consulted my fellow KL lover Jenise to ask when I should start pulling the corks. She advised that I keep my paws off of them until at least 2010. Smart woman.

Have either of you tried a 2001? I have high hopes for those as well.

Dave,

There are 3 or 4 of the 2001 KL in the cellar, but so far have resisted the temtation to open one. Perhaps someone else here can be of more help.
