DOC Puglia
Apollonia

A blend of Negroamaro (70 per cent), Montepulciano (15) and five per cent each of Malvasia nera di Lecce, Malvasia Nera di Brindisi and Sangiovese.

Very dark red in the glass.

Lovely nose of cherry, leather, earth and smoke.

Medium to heavy weight, tangy, somewhat stewed cherry, leather, smoky, earthy, quite rich, a not unpleasant bitter streak, chocolate, smooth and plump in the mouth becoming drying toward the end.

A very long finish, earthy and leathery.

A very impressive wine.

Purchased at $17.95 (Canadian).
