WTN: Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Oct 02, 2008 7:33 pm

WO Coastal Region
Boekenhoutskloof

Very dark purple in the glass.

Medicinal, earthy, spicy nose.

Very thick, rich and intense, smoky, band aid notes, tarry, black cherry, bacon, leather, good tangy acidity.

Tangy, medicinal (band aid) on the finish.

A very impressive wine that went quite well with BBQ steaks.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

Screwcap closure.

Bruce,

So, this is from Porcupine Ridge ? No surprise that it shows a tangy spine of acid.

Sorry, I just had to do that, with a straight line like that ...

Bruce, this is a Graham Beck wine that I have seen on the shelves locally, and not tried yet. Not likely to as I am not too keen on the GB wines.

Yeah, I am with Bob H. Used to be a good producer but lately at the tasting bar, I have not been too impressed. A Shiraz/Viognier this afternoon was just average.

I think you guys are confusing this wine, produced by Boekenhoutskloof, with the Ridge Syrah, produced by Graham Beck.

Took a look around the internet and it doesn't appear that Graham Beck bought out Boekenhoutskloof.

Bruce, you may be exactly right in my case. I don't know how I mistook this for a Graham Beck wine at all. I do think that the GB "The Ridge" is a decent wine though. It's his lower end wines I have little use for.
