A sparkling wine made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes

by CeliaJ » Thu Oct 02, 2008 8:43 pm

I really didn't think this was possible, until I tried Chauvignon Reserve, vintage 2001, yesterday. Sparkling wine made of Cabernet was awesome. I'm usually not a huge fan of champagne but this was really good. Would highly recommend it, can be purchased threw the winery's homepage at http://www.sjoeblome.com

Hi CeliaJ and welcome to the forum. I hope you didn't just join our group to SPAM us. Feel free to join in other discussions where we talk about food and wine. Some folks here might consider it bad manners to just join our group and post a promotion for a wine on your first post.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

Yeah, looks like spam to me! Using big letters, I find quite annoying too. You are aware, of course, of 100% sparkling wine using Shiraz?
Anyhows , enlighten us about your likes and dislikes in the wine world!

I'm with you Howie/Bob, looks very dodgy to me.
Cheers,

Spam it may be, but I remember Yalumba Special Cuvée 2 used to be 100% Cab Sauv - and was a real (to me enjoyable) oddity, now their D Cuvée which I haven't tried but must have replaced it, seems to be a blend of Cab Sauv and Shiraz.

I too have had some luscious sparkling cabernets. So far as I know, none are made in the U.S. any more, though I've heard of one by Schug that I've never tried.

And I agree this post is spam.

As some people in some parts of the world might say: "Oy". Did someone mention sparkling Shiraz? I've been fighting with Australian friends over sparkling Shiraz for years now. Even did a special tasting to satisfy them/me. And I remain convinced (with apologies to Matilda and Ric) that sparkling Shiraz is at its best drunk either straight from the bottle or through a plastic straw when watching football or soccer games. Not my cup of whatever........

Daniel,

I'm with you. I have no taste for sparkling red wine at all.

My mistake of using big letters. It was still a pink wine, think it's called blanc de noir. I really like Cab. grapes so that's why I wanted to tell u all about it.

Have a good one,

I checked their website, it's apparently a Napa Valley cabernet blanc. Looks like it's all they make, too, and that the company is actually Swedish. Interestingly since they're selling in the U.S, they make the mistake of calling this 'champagne'. At least, all over the webpage they do, it may not be on the bottle.

Celia J, do you have any connection with the winery or wine other than a satisfied customer. JIC you don't know what spam is, it is known on the internet as unsolicited advertisement of a product. If George Steinbrenner came to the WLDG and told us to watch the Yankees every night, that would be spam. So if you are in some way connected, your post is spam. If you are not you should have said something to the effect of.... Hey I am just a very satisfied customer but if you ever see.... then you would not be spamming the forum. See the difference?

A blanc de noir should be pink or salmon colored; quite a different product from a sparkling red wine, and much better, too, in my opinion.
