WTN: Cesari Merlot Delle Venezie 2007

Good cherry red in the glass.

Rich black cherry, roasted notes, spicy, floral (perhaps violets), medium weight, leather, good tangy acidity, vanilla, smooth and soft in the mouth, chocolate, becoming quite tangy and showing a light bitter bite toward the end.

With time, the wine gained heft and richness.

This is Merlot with a bit of attitude. Very impressive.

What's even more impressive is the fact that this is a steal at $7.45 (Canadian).

Many thanks for this most intriguing note. I agree that the wine sounds very interesting, especially given its rock-bottom price. I think it will be worth a try for my next pizza night. I take it that the wine is easily available at the LCBO on general list?

The last time I had interesting "cheap" wine (I use the word "cheap" solely to reflect a really low price, rather than to denote a wine of poor quality) was back when Libertas Pinotage was still regularly available here. For $7.95, it was like a little brother to Kanonkop - and just the style I love.
