TablasCreek Roussanne Seminar

by TomHill » Wed Oct 08, 2008 9:08 am

Thanks to JasonHaas for directing me to this. This is the Tablas Blog & his Dad, Robert, did a nice writeup on the Terroir Seminer at the recent SFW&CF. Further one down the page is a very interesting report on the Roussanne (winemakers only) Seminar they held at Tablas this Summer. A very interesting read. The link to the Seminar notes is also worth reading.

I thought PatrickComisky did a very good job of summarizing the history of Roussanne in Calif.
Anyway...very interesting read if you like Roussanne.

Tom, thanks so much for posting these links. When I had a quick visit to Tablas Creek early this year, I did get to taste not only their standard Roussanne, but a slightly old sample (i.e. been open a while) of their early-picked Roussanne that they call Bergeron after the Savoie synonym as in Chignin Bergeron - I found it absolutely fascinating that a winery in California (albeit French-owned) was paying homage to a wine in Savoie!
Although even in Savoie they can be over-blown sometimes, I love the way Roussanne can combine really ripe yellow-fruit flavours with singing acidity.
