Had surgery on my tongue last week, I had a cyst removed about the size of a pencil eraser. It has only been 4 days but my sense of taste is way off. I should have asked the Doctor and I plan to on my follow up but is this normal? Swelling is down and I still have stitches. I'm not doomed to start enjoying oaky, buttery Chardonnay am I?

Extremely common, Ed, especially if you are taking antibiotics or pain killers or using a prescription antibacterial mouth rinse. Don't worry. It might take a while to adjust to the new "normal," but you should be ok.

The typical change in palate following tongue surgery is toward flourescent-colored, fruit-flavored, effervescent wine beverages and Midoritinis.

lots of progress today, I can taste food pretty well but it all tastes like it's wrapped in tin foil
