WTN: 2006 Colio Estate Riesling (Lake Erie North Shore VQA)

by Paul B. » Sun Oct 12, 2008 9:56 pm

11.5% alc./vol. Purchased at the Colio retail outlet.

Brilliant, clear light straw colour with light green reverberations. Very fine beads of carbonation inside the glass. Aromatically light; tart pineapple, some stones and oily petrol; good stoney minerality replays on repeated swirling. Crisp, powerful tartness on entry, balanced by some residual sugar (this is described as a '2' on the sugar scale used both at the LCBO and at Colio's outlets). Fine minerality and cleansing acidity; very mouthwatering and at the same time semi-dry. Some raspy citrus rind comes into play on the mid-palate. The finish is crisp and clean, though not especially long.

A very good Riesling overall, but one for earlier drinking - probably not for holding more than a couple of years.
