1998 Matthews Cellars Red Wine (Yakima Valley)
Jenise and I have been debating the status of late '90s Matthews for a while. I have been defending the wine saying that it's still quite good (if peaked). She has experienced less idea results. Well last night's bottle was less than ideal, but I wonder if it was something other than just age. There was a significant loss of fruit , but no TCA notable in the aromatics. There was some significant bricking. Then I looked at the cork & saw a dent in the side. Perhaps air intrusion? No way to know, but this bottle was DOA.
