The health benefits of wine were thought to be much greater for red wine. This article indicates that white wiine is just as beneficial.

Most wine fans probably drink white wine. Some of them think it is just a warm up of the palate before they get to the REAL (i.e.red) wines. I know one guy like that. If we have too many white wines at my blind tasting lunches he starts to fidget....

serve his wine in a black glass. you'd be surprised how hard it really is to tell what color a wine is.

Well, there was this, though.

Director of the Hatter Institute for Cardiology Research, Professor Lionel Opie, in South Africa, agreed Dr Das' evidence proved white wine protected lab rats, but said human heart attacks occurred from blood clots and diseased arteries and not necessarily mitochondrial failure.

I tend to trust anybody named Opie.

No fear, I am not from PETA. In fact, I rather fear and loathe PETA, but has everyone overlooked the fact that this "critically important health research" was done by inducing heart attacks in dogs and rats? One doubts that any researcher will have the patience to monitor his animals until that happy day when they suffer from a heart attack.

As far as all of the heath-related wine research with which we are bombarded, I am seriously considering applying for a grant to study the beneficial aspects of the resveratrol found in snake oil. Think of it.....major publications in JAMA, the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Journal of Experimental Ontology, the Wine Spectator and perhaps even an Ignoble Prize.
