WTN: Morambro Creek Shiraz 2001

Padthaway, South Australia

Decanted about ten minutes before we sat down.

Dark red, almost black, in the glass.

Veggy, mint, cloves, some odd fruit that I can't identify and chocolate on the nose.

Tangy, mint and cool menthol, quite rich, black cherry, chocolate, medium weight, peppery, roasted-charred notes, cloves, spicy, good acidity toward the end.

With time, the wine became tangier, pepperier, and took on more of an edge, coming close to being shrill.

A tangy, slightly bitter, finish.

A very unusual, and enjoyable, wine.

Purchased at $27.95 (Canadian).
