Notes from lunch and a lazy Sunday afternoon. With the kids and wife at the mall, I took the opportunity to have a few drinks with friends.

Trimbach Gewurztraminer Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre 2001 - Classic nose of lychee and roses. Sweet spices, cloves. A bit oily. Some sweetness here. Quite powerful and very attractive. Probably at peak now but should hold there for a few years.

Argiano Solengo 2003 - Supertuscan. Not sure what's in this but likely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Quite smoky on the nose. Coffee, dried cherries, fairly sweet/ripe. A little earth and later some prunes as well. There's a fair amount of acidity in this. The finish has some dusty/powdery tannins and a touch of oak. This wine seems a bit disjointed. Nice enough but
I suspect better with some food.

Mondavi Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 - Strong menthol on the nose. Sweet fruit. Plummy. Medium-bodied. Very tannic. Definitely needs time but should be at least very good when it sheds some tannins.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
