WTN: '07 Schafer-Frolich Bockenauer Felseneck Spatlese

Initially a bit reticent on the nose, but once it warms up a bit - POW! There's cherries, apples, citrus fruit and a wealth of salty minerals. It's certainly sweet, but the acids clear it up on the finish. This is not a wine for acid heads, but it does line up with some other '07s I have had to indicate that 2007 might be the most drinkable vintage in years. My powers of self-control while limited at best are no match for the '07s.

Oh bollocks, that is NOT good news. I've been going through the 02s, 03s, 05s and 06s recently and all are tasting great right now. If the 07s are tasting even better... I think my liver and my wallet may be racing each other to hell and back.

I do like the immediate drinkability of '07, I really do. Sorry.

I really like the vintage but for its immediate drinkability. It does not have sufficient acid for me to hold it long term. I still much prefer the 2001s.

Really? I am quite surprised as the most 07 Spätlese (not dry) I tasted had a lot of acid. BTW, give the 07 Fritz Haag "Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr" Spätlese a try. For me the SPÄTLESE of the vintage.

P.S. The recommended Spätlese from Fritz Haag has such a great aging potential that I will open the next bottle in 10 years.

These are moderate acid wines. Sure they show more acid than '03 and '05 because they have more & they show more than '06 because of its freaky sugar, but they are not the style of wines I crave. I will really enjoy drinking them the way I really enjoyed drinking the 1997, but I won't cellar many of them.
