WTN: 2006 Arnoux Bourgogne Pinot Fin

WTN: 2006 Arnoux Bourgogne Pinot Fin 12.5%
I ordered half a case of the 05s but forgot to specify "no vintage substitution." This is a pinot made from 60 year old vines of pinot fin, an older pinot clone, with the grapes only partially de-stemmed. Nice to see that old-fashioned 12.5% alcohol level.

Classic basic bourgogne nose of bright cherry and green stems. Light, well rounded and very pleasant, with bright raspberry flavors over some caramel and a touch of adequate sourness. In a blind tasting, I would have swore this was a cru beaujolais. With aeration and food, it evolved into something more high-toned, closer to pinot than gamay. Not complex, but a pleasure to drink.
"I went on a rigorous diet that eliminated alcohol, fat and sugar. In two weeks, I lost 14 days." Tim Maia, Brazilian singer-songwriter.

Years like 2005 in Beaujolais will do that to you.

I actually bought a bunch of the 2005 version of this wine. It's really good stuff. If we ever catch up in NYC I will bring you a bottle.

Thanks for the notes, Oswaldo. Do you recall if this is Robert Arnoux or Arnoux Pere et Fils?

It's Pere et Fils. Label says "vinified in the traditional manner, with 10% stem retention, pigeage and 35% new oak for 11 months."

Yes, I bought these on the strength of your recommendation, but they sent me the "wrong" vintage.

If we ever catch up in São Paulo, I have a bottle of 03 Barton set aside!

Here it is! Great note Oswaldo! What is the price in American dollars? I think I have seen this at one of my local haunts.
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?

It cost me all of $15.89 at Cabrini Wines, at the time found via Wine-Searcher.
