WTN: Weil, Shea, Chryseia, Apogee

Notes from dinner with Vince, Jojo, Marly and Jocel at Cyma in Greenbelt.

Robert Weil Riesling Kabinett 2006 - The salads at Cyma are pretty awesome but they do have a bit of lemon and vinegar so I thought a crisp wine with some sweetness might stand up to the acidic dressing. This wine did pretty well. Sweet, practically Spatlese level, but quite crisp. Rich, pineapple, apple and peach flavors. Very easy to drink. Delicious!

Shea Wine Cellars Shea Vineyard Chardonnay 2005 - Very dry. The oak isn't powerful but it tends to stick out. Bitter finish. Lean wine. Not my type. Slightly better with food but I don't anyone went for second glass of this.

Chryseia 2006 - From the Douro; a joint venture between the Prats of Bordeaux and the Symington Port family. Very dark. Plummy, rather port-like in flavor but without the alcohol and sugar although there is a fair amount of fruit-sweetness here. Surprisingly smooth and ready to drink. I was expecting something more tannic. Very good.

Apogee 2005 - By Le Vieux Pin from Osoyoos Lake, BC. A bit hot. Rich, slightly earthy. Lots of fruit but quite dry. Perhaps a little short on the finish but otherwise quite good. It helps to have a friend in Vancouver who patronizes the local produce.

We enjoyed an after dinner scotch (Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or) at Vince's new 47th floor apartment with a fantastic view of the Manila skyline before calling it a night.

What you get there never ceases to amaze me. I haven't had one of these yet!

Thanka again for some geat notes.

Weil is ridiculously expensive in the USA. What do they get for a bottle of the kabinett in Manilla?

This was about $33.00. Just a regular kabinett. No vineyard or village designation.

I'm wondering about that myself! I'll repost the whole thing.
